Italians serving with an international maritime task force off the Lebanese coast have rescued a Syrian national who had been swimming for two days, the United Nations News Center said Monday.
The man had apparently fallen from a passing ship and was rescued on Saturday by the "San Marco" crew several hundred meters off the coast, said a statement posted on the News Center’s website.
It said the Syrian man was initially administered first aid by the ship’s doctor and later evacuated to a hospital in the southern port city of Tyre, according to the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon.
